Hello, now in this video, I’ll talk about the flight plans. I’m sure you are concerned about how you’ll be arriving Samsun. I will talk about how we will be flying from America.
The men’s volleyball team will be flying from California and the women’s team will be flying from Washington DC area. So now here is the schedule, since we will not be flying together, Turkey’s Olympic Committee is aware of this situation since we are not the only ones flying separately as teams. However, all of us will be flying to Istanbul first because of Customs. Turkey’s OC has a schedule organized for all countries’ teams, which means for us, the USA are responsible to inform them of the exact time and details of our arrivals. They will keep track of that.
Once we land in Istanbul, we will be switching to a new plane for our layover flight to Samsun. We will go through the large Istanbul airport, which has a strong security – composing of two layers of security barricades. Once we arrive Customs, there will be people involved with the Deaflympics committee present and readily available to guide us to our next flight. Some of us will wait a bit for our layover and there will be security measures applied for our safety.
When we finally fly our layover flight to Samsun, please keep in mind that Samsun’s airport is a small one by the coast and is undergoing renovations to improve two things, the aesthetics in terms of advertising the Deaflympics, and to manage large crowds of people (athletes and fans). Once we land, we will be escorted briefly by security through the small airport onto our team bus, with security motorcade, we will be escorted to the University. Our registrations will be arranged accordingly once we arrive.
If you are curious how far the airport is from the University, where we will be staying, it’ll be around a 30/40-minute drive. For those who are concerned about early departure back home, the competition ends on Friday, July 28 and the Closing Ceremony is on the 30th, Sunday. You have the options of departing on 29th (Saturday), 30th (Sunday), or 31st (Monday). USADSF will contact you to arrange your preferred schedule. Turkey will provide transportation to the airport on your preferred date of departure to Istanbul and then there will be people from the Olympic Committee there ready to escort you to your flight back home.
All this I just mentioned encompasses the flight plan information for your awareness. It is important for you to know that the Closing Ceremony is on Sunday, July 30 and our last day of competition is Friday, July 28th. You have options when you want to leave back home. Thank you.
